Tom Bartel: The Ravages of Time

Tom Bartel’s figures often appear marked by life, almost literally, through the treatment of their surfaces. Simplified forms, strong color contrasts, and enlarged elements all contribute to the character of the figures. They stand there somewhat lost, as if they have no other choice. It is the human condition, with little control over what happens in life.
